Butterful Chiminea Outdoor Fireplace ALCH017

The first chimineas were built in Mexico thousands of years ago by tribesmen who scooped mud or river clay and molded them into a bulbous fireplace with an opening on one side and a vertical vent for smoke. These were used for warmth and cooking.

Today chimineas are very popular both in the United States and United Kingdom. They are often installed on open decks, patios, or backyards for decoration, outdoor cooking, and warmth. However, as clay does not seem to be able to withstand the thermal shock of a sudden downpour while still warm from burning, other materials are now used to manufacture chimineas, such as cast aluminum and cast iron.

The Butterfly Chiminea Outdoor Fireplace is a fine example of one made out of cast aluminum. It is constructed out of a solid aluminum alloy that is extremely resistant to rust even when exposed to the elements. It stands 4½ feet and is 22 inches at the widest section of the rounded firebox. This tapers as it rises to the chimney which again flares at the top opening to facilitate the flow of smoke. To keep the rain from the firebox, a removable rain lid is supplied.

The single opening is fitted with a hinged safety screen to keep sparks and embers from floating out. At the bottom of the firebox is a cast iron grate that supports the logs. Apart from providing warmth, the chiminea can also be used for cooking. The neck or chimney can be removed. The grilling insert made of cast iron can then be used for roasting or broiling.

Dancing butterflies playing on tall reeds adorn the Butterfly Chiminea Outdoor Fireplace ALCH017. Such details provide life and embellishment to an otherwise plain and austere structure. There are three available finishes –charcoal, gold accent, and antique green. Regardless of your choice of finish, the Butterfly Chiminea will make a great centerpiece in your patio where you and your family and friends can spend countless nights enjoying the stars and the barbecue.
